Getting this group together is like herding cats. Harley up and got himself on jury duty earlier in the week, and we nearly had to sacrifice our outing to justice. Rennich coached Harley on how to avoid jury duty, but Harley's a soldier and manned up for his civic duty. Justice done, Harley showed up with schwag for the group--a sleeve of Noodles, most of which can be found this morning in the hazards and high grass of Red Rocks Country Club, I daresay.
We showed up late morning and had a great lunch on the veranda. Being at RRCC with Devine is like being with Mick Jagger or Prince--the doors just open. Living well is the best revenge.
Rennich owns this course. He shot 78 the first time around, several years ago, and 85 yesterday, with two birdies. We modified the Hole In One prize from $1000 to $300 and Rennich nearly collected. Twice. Paying Mick Rennich money for a golf shot is one of the more painful things I can think of ever having to do. His 212 yard five-iron to within the grip was the Shot of the Day. How many sixty year olds hit a five iron 212 yards, I ask you?
Miss C continues to be the most coveted award, and there was no contest this year. Devine showed up with Roy's Sport Shop WHS hats, golf balls from Buck$ and Buck$, complimentary lunch, pupus and beverages, the company of fair Deb Carson Devine, the undivided attention of Bar Wench Sara: the bar is high for subsequent Miss C competition.
Devine says he'll display Miss C on his credenza at work, but hosting Miss C for the year involves quite a bit of 'splaining. Only those who have endured Dakota winters, frostbite, Ki-Yi Day, mosquitoes and Hamms hangovers truly understand the nuances of Miss C. I'm not sure the senior partners will get it.
No Harley Heroics this year. No Miracle Par From Environmentally Sensitive Area. I think the burden of doing justice the day before lay heavily on Harley. And Hanson? Well he was shutout, and had no shots or putts worthy even of nomination. I think he spends so much time and energy concentrating on seeing that his classmates are having a good time that he gives nary a thought to his own game or glory. If there's a Lifetime Achievement Award for Miss C. There's really no contest is there? Really?
Was that a tear in the eye of Fair Bar Wench Sara as we drove away? Likely so. And as we drove home, Rennich said that he looks forward to this day, every year, like none other. Maybe Christmas. And he doesn't want the day to end. Me, too.
Thank you guys. The legend grows.

There has been no mention of Harley's birdie from the fringe on a par 3 on the back side. It almost won him best and worst short game in the same round. A picture of his birdie celebration will follow.
A keyboard in Hanson's hand is akin to a viola in Yo-Yo Ma's arms or a violin on Itshak Perlman's shoulder. Without peer and a delight to the senses.
You enjoy the sport of golf, but there are many aspects of it that are unquestionably difficult|Playing golf is a fun pastime, though there are challenging elements to the sport in my view|I think that, the golf swing is no doubt one of the extremely challenging and perplexing athletic acts that there is.
